Opal's Story

Opal is the latest piece in the Afro-Art collection and was recently painted in 2020. Opal is a mixed media piece, detailing silver foil and marbles featured in the statement necklace. Opal was painted as a gift to a dear friend of artist, Jolianne Alexander, and truly embodies the culmination of the lessons Jolianne has learned over the years to develop her craft. From the blending techniques, to the general aesthetic, Opal is like a final exam after years of study--a bit of a graduation if you will.

Jolianne is very proud of this piece and when she finished it, she literally screamed out loud with tears of joy. Opal literally brought Jolianne to tears because of how elated she was at the accomplishment. 

Opal is featured in a bit of a boastful stance, and is meant to embody a quiet confidence. Opal fully reflects who Jolianne is today--quietly and confidently owning who. she. is.
