Iba was painted in 2017, and she was a challenging piece for artist, Jolianne Alexander. At the time, Jolianne was inspired by the Egyptian aesthetic and its use of golds, oranges, and reds, which were tugging at Jolianne's creative spirit, begging to be splashed onto a canvas.

Iba was challenging because it was Jolianne's first attempt to paint imagery in a more "realistic" tone. As you can see, the outfit which Iba wears has layers upon layers of colors, to mimic the highlights, hues, and shadows commonly associated with cloth. Additionally, Iba was the first piece where Jolianne attempted to paint more "realistic" skin tone. All Pimento Creations pieces predating Iba showcase a more "unrefined" blending of skin tone. Iba was the first depiction of Jolianne's ability to grow in her blending and overall artistry. It should also be mentioned that Jolianne hates painting hands; and Iba's hands are fully showcased in this piece.

Iba is a piece that is meant to inspire growth. Hopefully when you gaze upon Iba, you will similarly be inspired to grow within yourself, to not be stagnant, and to challenge yourself to reach beyond your perceived limitations. Iba is a milestone, and Jolianne hopes she will help you reach your milestones as well.
