Denali was painted in 2016. She is the first piece artist, Jolianne Alexander, painted with the intention of developing her Afro-Art collection. At the time the piece was painted, Jolianne Alexander was visiting her parents and sitting on the bed in the stillness of her childhood bedroom looking out her window as the breeze blew in. Jolianne has had many flashes of inspiration in this very situation, and the brainstorm of Denali was no exception.

As Denali took shape, Jolianne did not initially intend to add the sparkly drops on her hair, but the piece seemed unfinished for quite some time. In fact, several months went by before Jolianne revisited Denali to add the sparkles.

Denali without the sparkles

Denali is an inspiration piece. She is meant to reflect the brainstorming Jolianne experienced in her childhood bedroom on the day she was created. She is the image of Jolianne's mind at work.

Hopefully by pondering on Denali, you will also find your creative inspiration as you meditate in the stillness of the world around you.
